THREE Simple Ways to get Diabetes

As Americans we surround ourselves with delicious foods. Most of our events are surrounded by meals, and we haven’t even finished our first meal and start planning the next. We as a nation are obsessed with food, which is why the highest rate of obesity is here in America. Obesity is a easy path to diabetes.
What is diabetes? It is a metabolic disease that is characterized by hyperglycemia, or high blood sugar. The horrible side effects of hyperglycemia can cause relatively mild issues such as erectile dysfunction to the more serious cases of complete organ failure and lastly, renal disease.
Lets start off by explaining what our bodies do after a meal. When our food is digested the glucose (SUGAR) finds its way into our bloodstream. Our bodies use the glucose for energy. Then our bodies produce insulin to help the glucose make it into our cells. The pancreas helps the body release insulin and helps lower the blood sugar. A person with diabetes has too much glucose in the bloodstream and the pancreas cannot produce enough insulin to help lower the sugar making someone hypoglycemic.
When you give your body too much sugar/sugary foods your pancreas cannot keep up with the demand.
How can you avoid diabetes?
As many times as you have heard it, the rules still haven’t changed.
You must:
Eat healthy. Have a balanced meal. For every amount of grams of carbohydrate make sure to have an equal amount of protein. Have legumes, fruits, lean meats, low-­‐fat milk and most importantly practice portion control so your body can keep up with the demand of insulin.
Exercise: It is a proven fact the doing at least 30 minutes of physical activity 3 times a week will reduce the risk of diabetes type 2. Physical activity has been shown to reduce the risk of pre‐diabetes more than any other medication on the market.
Loose Weight: Yes, easier said than done. But when you replace one meal with a healthier alternative and do regular exercise, this is sure to follow.
When you eat foods that regulate your blood sugar, your cravings will diminish, your energy levels will increase, and your mood will change giving you, overall, a much greater quality of life.
