Why Give Birth Naturally?

Why Give Birth Naturally?

Giving Birth is one of the most miraculous moments women can experience. From the 9 month waiting period, to the hard work of “labor” and even what seems to be the never-ending tasks diaper changing after the fact. Regardless of how you choose to deliver your baby, that final outcome of the doctor or mid-wife putting the baby on your chest, or your partner holding the baby for the first time is what makes that moment special. On the other note, Childbirth is one of the biggest fears a pregnant women can have. Even more so when she is a first-time mother. These fears are rooted from the stories of other mothers, and what media teaches about the pain of labor and the many hours spent pushing or other complications that may arise. Although these stories have discouraged many women to give birth naturally, there are still many who choose to experience the natural childbirth process.
For those who choose natural childbirth here are some reasons that may put you at ease and encourage your decision even more.
The most obvious reason is the ‘natural’ part of it. No epidural or pain medicine! According to research, if you do take an epidural here are some of these risks that may arise:
  • Mothers blood pressure suddenly dropping.
  • Cannot feel lower part of body and the natural feeling to start pushing.
  • The use of a catheter.
  • May slow labor
  • Although rare, residual numbness or weakness from needle injury to nerves
  • Unknown long-term effects on newborn
  • Abnormal heart-rate on newborn
This is a short list and is not limited to these risks.
Another reason to choose natural childbirth is that the baby and mother will be more alert after the fact. When baby and mother are both undrugged, naturally there is a greater awareness of everything around them. They are generally happier and healthier than other babies and mothers that have been drugged. Not only can baby use their instincts better, but they feel more connected and aware of their mother and fathers touch.
Natural childbirth can empower the mother. The fact that a mother knows she gave birth naturally without any intervention from pain medicine or surgeries she feels so much more accomplished and involved in the process. In addition to that, mothers who gave birth naturally are known to heal faster than those who didn’t.
Of Course, other complication naturally may arise and some form on intervention may be needed to save the baby’s or the mother’s life. But if the mother and baby are healthy during labor, consider the aspects above for your childbirth choice like generations of women have done and survived to tell their beautiful stories in the past.
